Nimbua Greenfield (Punjab) Limited (NGPL) has been promoted by a group of nine companies on the initiative of Govt of Punjab to develop and implement the project for creation of a common facility for storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous waste being generated in the State. Project implementation was facilitated by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India, when they sanctioned a grant of Rs.12.69 crores for the project under Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS). The total cost of the Project was Rs.17.25 crore.

The Project is located at village Nimbua about 10 Km from Dera Bassi. The site was finalized by Punjab Pollution Control Board, after carrying out environmental impact studies for six other sites in the State. Punjab Government fully supported the Project, and in the true spirit of public / private sector participation, concerted efforts were made by Principal Secretary Science & Technology, as well as Chairman PPCB, for acquisition of 20 acres of land which was acquired by Punjab Pollution Control Board and given to the Company for the Project on a nominal lease.

After going through a comprehensive and transparent bidding process, with the assistance of IL&FS, M/s Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) a prominent environment company based in Hyderabad was awarded the contract for design, construction and operation of the project on 18 March 2006. The Project was inaugurated on 03 October 2007 by Honourable Chief Minister Punjab S. Prakash Singh Badal, in the presence of Sh. Manoranjan Kalia, Minister of Industries and S.Bikram Singh Majithia ,Minister of Environment, Science & Technology and Shri S P Oswal, Chairman of NGPL. Operations are continuing on the site ever since. NGPL has successfully disposed of 113763 MT of hazardous waste till 31 July 2013. The estimated life of the project based on current waste receipts is till 2030.
